turning 30...

Well, it finally happened. Despite my kicking and screaming I turned 30 and didn't like it one bit. It actually happened Jan 21 but I've been in denial the past few weeks. And truthfully, if I think about it even now, I get a little nauseous. Turning 30 to me is probably like turning 40 for most people.

Alas, the day has come and gone and thankfully I don't feel much different...yet! To help me survive my 30th birthday, Kyle surprised me and took me into NYC for the day. If I had to turn 30 it wasn't such a bad place to celebrate. We started off having lunch at John's Pizzaria. It's a charming place off Time Square. They have really good pizza. After lunch we went to Central Park Zoo and turns out, you really CAN'T have that many animals in Central Park. Although Central Park is decent in size, it's not sufficient enough for a real zoo. But Lyla didn't seem to care. She enjoyed chasing all the other children as though they were her best friends more than she did looking at the sea lions, birds, monkeys and polar bears. It was fun to watch her and see new sides of her personality come out.

Here she's making indian noises to the monkey. We're still working on teaching her monkey noises...
After the zoo we took the subway over to Hoboken, NJ to visit Carlo's Bake Shop. For those of you that watch TLC, the show Cake Boss is filmed here. I love cake and the show so Kyle knew I'd love this stop.

I got a lobster roll (crunch croissant-ish pastry with cream inside) and of course, a cupcake. Kyle chose a cream filled pastry cup with a strawberry on top. The sweet girls at Carlo's gave Lyla a a cookie with pink sprinkles. They were all quite yummy.

We were planning to eat dinner there as well but in case you didn't know, NYC in January isn't the warmest of places to be walking around. And we were full from our treats at Carlo's so we decided to call it a day.

While I wasn't happy about turning the big 3-0, I did enjoy my surprise trip to NYC. Thanks to my husband for taking me to a place that's dear to my heart!
