It's springtime!!!

Fall is my favorite season but I must admit that there is something wonderful about springtime. There is an excitement that wells up inside of me at the sight of new life taking place. I find myself staring out the window, for probably longer than I realize, looking and searching for the buddings of spring. I'm a little embarrassed to admit this but sometimes I'll look out the window several times a day, as if by some chance the leaves started budding in the past hour. While sometimes it seems as though spring happens overnight, I'm sure it doesn't happen within hours. But nevertheless, I look. I wait. I watch. Kyle and I planted seeds indoors (to be moved outside in May) a few weeks ago, some flowers, some vegetables and herbs. Almost every day I go and look at them, checking to see how much they've grown. I'm like a kid in a candy store at the sight of springtime growth. Am I the only one who enjoys all of this?

Kyle and I have a few projects for this spring and I am anxious to get them started. All of them are landscaping projects. We are putting in vegetable/fruit/herb/flowers for cutting gardens on the side of the house. Since they are not the most pleasant to look at we will be putting a fence and an arbor in front of the boxes and then we'll put some flower and evergreen plants in front of the fence. In my mind it will look really good but we will see. We also need to plant some grass in our yard. We had a retaining wall put in last year so there is a big patch of dirt left where the landscaper used his bobcat to go back and forth from the front to the back yard. THEN if we have time (and money) we will put in flower gardens on the front right side of our house. I'm not holding my breath on that one but I'm hoping. Since this blog isn't just about Lyla (ha ha) I'll make sure to take pictures along the way so you can see all of the changes. For now I'll just post the picture of our house. Plain. It needs some life. And yes, it is very much like our house in Bloomington, both inside and out. (This picture doesn't show our big patch of dirt so you'll just have to imagine it. It runs along most of the front yard and around the right side of the house.)

Do you have a fun spring project you are working on?

  1. Oh you are not alone in your spring love affair. The hardest part of living this far north is that Spring doesn't really start until May, not really. I mean I can plant some lettuce in April. But the gardening books don't even recommend starting things indoors until April! But it's almost here!

  3. I love spring too...I too look out the windows at the trees in hope they will bud. They have started and that is so exciting! Our Spring (Summer, Winter, Fall) project is still the basement, but I'm hopeing to do some work outside! I think we are getting the boys a swing set!

  4. I'm enjoying spring more and more, especially after such a cold winter! Our house projects are never ending, but at least they keep us busy!
